It's PSAT Day!! Good Luck Sophomores & Juniors
What to Do the Night Before the PSAT
Here are some tips to help you maximize your score, starting the night before the PSAT:
Put down the books:
Yep, you read that right. At this point, any studying you do won’t likely be retained and will be counterproductive in achieving your best score. The night before the PSAT, you want to focus on all the non-test-related ways you can prepare yourself to perform at your very best, both physically and mentally.
Pick up a book:
This may seem to contradict the previous point. However, it is a good idea to read for recreation, especially the morning of. This will keep your mind warmed up and alert, not to mention give you non-stressful practice with reading comprehension. Make sure it’s something easily digestible and light so you don’t overtax your brain before the exam.
You score what you eat:
OK, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but fueling your body with the nutrients you need will also fuel your brain. Rather than a breakfast high in sugar, we suggest a complex carb such as oatmeal or whole grain toast, along with a protein to keep you full throughout the test. If you’re a coffee drinker, limit yourself to one or two cups, as too much caffeine will only add to your pre-test jitters. Make sure you stop drinking caffeine around noon the day before Test Day, so it won’t keep you from getting a good night’s sleep.
Get out of your head…and house:
When most people think of relaxing, they think of curling up on the couch with a blanket and Netflix. But there’s something very healing and revitalizing about being in nature. Why not go for a jog or a run the morning of to get those endorphins going and to let that fresh air recharge you? However, be careful about working out too late the day before Test Day, as it might keep you from being able to wind down and fall asleep.
It’s in the bag:
Before you let your head hit the pillow, make sure you’ve first prepped your backpack for Test Day. You don’t want to worry about this on the day of the exam; you’ll just want to grab it and go. You don’t need to bring much to the Digital PSAT, but you will want to make sure your device is fully charged that the app is installed and exam setup is complete before your test day. Try to anticipate and avoid anything that may distract you or prevent you from doing your best on the PSAT. Check the College Board website for the complete list of what to bring to the PSAT. By following all the tips above, a good score is in the bag!

The Digital PSAT will be done on October 16th for all 10th and 11th graders. To take the exam, all students must have a College Board account and the “Blue Book” app must be downloaded onto their computer. If your child has not done so already, please have them go into Self-Service and download the app right away. Once downloaded, they will then be able to practice sample questions in the Blue Book app to make sure they are comfortable for the test day.
Additionally, here is a link for online practice tests through Khan Academy. You will need to make an account first before you can begin: Online PSAT/NMSQT Practice
For those individuals who still like to practice for an exam using a paper copy, please click on the following link: Paper PSAT Practice Exam
Lastly, here is what you will need on test day:
There are only a few things you need to bring on test day, and a lot of things you'll be better off leaving at home. Be sure to bring:
-Your fully charged device. You must have the app installed and exam setup complete before test day if you're testing with a personal device.
-A power cord and/or a portable charger. We cannot guarantee you’ll have access to an outlet during testing. Your device should be able to hold a charge for 3–4 hours.
-A pencil or pen.
-Scratch paper will be provided—do not bring your own.
-An approved calculator. There’s a graphing calculator built into the app, but you can bring your own if you like.

Important Statement From Mr. Biral Patel, Board of Education President, Regarding Policy 5756:
"As stated by Superintendent Dr. Aldarelli in his message to the community, Policy 5756 has not been abolished. At the last Board meeting, a motion was made from the floor (meaning it was not on the agenda) to abolish the Policy. The Board at that time followed the attorney’s advice who was present in the meeting concerning the process for handling that motion that came from the floor and a vote was taken by the Board to approve the motion.
According to our Board bylaws, a policy can only be officially abolished at a subsequent meeting of the Board after approval at a previous meeting. In other words, it takes two votes of the board at two separate meetings in order to abolish a policy. Therefore, Policy 5756 has not been abolished and is in full force and effect. We want to ensure a complete and correct process is followed and full transparency is maintained in any further Board action that is taken with respect to this.
In furtherance of ensuring a proper process is followed with our examination of this Policy, I believe the Board must perform a thorough review of the pros and cons of this Policy before having a final discussion on it.
We have enormous faith in Superintendent Dr. Aldarelli to guide our District and under his leadership we are striving to ensure Board members make the right decisions for students, parents, staff members, and the entire Edison Township Community."
Celebrate Senior Night as the Lady Eagles Varsity Volleyball team takes on the Lady Mustangs of JFK Memorial High School, on October 9th at Edison High School at 5:15 pm.
On September 30, 2024, the Edison Board of Education passed a resolution to abolish Policy 5756. In accordance with Board of Education policy, any policy adoption, revision, or abolishment requires two readings and approval by the Board of Education. It cannot be abolished until it is voted on again at a subsequent Board of Education meeting, and therefore, it continues to remain in effect.
As Superintendent, I am both committed and required to adhere to all New Jersey state laws regarding anti-discrimination including the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD). I will continue to ensure that all students in Edison Township Public Schools are served fairly and in accordance with the law. We are currently discussing this matter with the Board of Education attorneys, and I will keep the community informed of further developments.
